The United Progressive Party (UPP) has announced the postponement of its planned protest march originally set for Thursday, November 20, shifting instead to a virtual panel discussion dissecting the Government’s upcoming Throne Speech.
The party confirmed this evening that it had received official permission for the march, which was aimed at maintaining pressure on the Government to initiate an independent investigation into the ongoing Ministry of Works scandal, commonly referred to as “Vehicle-gate.” Despite receiving the go-ahead, UPP leadership says the timing of the Throne Speech—scheduled for delivery by the Governor-General on Thursday morning—has prompted a strategic pivot.
In a public statement, the UPP explained that instead of taking to the streets, it would host a roundtable discussion Thursday night across its media platforms. The session will offer a sector-by-sector review of the Browne Administration’s 2025 performance and scrutinize its policy agenda for 2026.
“This exercise is part of the UPP’s continuing efforts to educate the public,” the statement read, adding that the panel will aim to hold the Executive accountable in the face of what the Party describes as a pattern of governmental “misspending and malfeasance.”
The UPP has pledged to release further details, including broadcast times and participating platforms, by Thursday morning.
The Throne Speech traditionally outlines the Government’s legislative priorities for the upcoming year, and this year’s address is expected to be closely watched, particularly amid mounting criticism over transparency and accountability.
