In Loving Memory — The Fiery Legacy of Rosemarie McMaster, Matriarch of Susie’s Hot Sauce

Rosemarie McMaster, the heart and fire behind Antigua’s world-famous Susie’s Hot Sauce, passed away peacefully at 11:48 p.m. on January 16th, 2026, leaving behind a rich legacy steeped in love, culture, and Caribbean flavour.

With her passing, Antigua and Barbuda mourns the loss of a national treasure — not just a pioneering entrepreneur, but a woman whose sauce warmed homes around the world and whose presence enriched the island she called home.

A Legacy Born in a Family Kitchen

Born into the warmth of Antiguan tradition and culinary passion, Rosemarie (affectionately known as Rosie) grew up watching her mother, Susannah Tonge, stir up fiery blends of local peppers and island spices in their modest kitchen. It was there, in those early years, that the seed for Susie’s Hot Sauce was planted.

After her mother’s passing in 1990, Rosie stepped forward — not just to preserve the family recipe, but to grow it into a brand recognized far beyond Antigua’s shores.

Turning Heat into Heritage

Guided by a blend of business acumen and deep respect for her roots, Rosemarie transformed Susie’s into a globally respected culinary brand. With over a dozen unique flavours and international distribution, Susie’s Hot Sauce became more than a condiment — it was a symbol of Antiguan pride.

Under her leadership, the brand received numerous international accolades. Rosie herself was honoured as a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for her contributions to business, culture, and national identity.

A Life of Passion and Purpose

Beyond her achievements, Rosie was a devoted wife, loving mother, and community pillar. She brought integrity, joy, and a touch of spice to everything she did — whether mentoring young entrepreneurs, developing new sauces, or collaborating with local charities.

Even as she passed the business to the next generation, her hands and heart remained in every jar.

She Leaves to Mourn

Rosemarie McMaster is deeply mourned by her loving family:
• Husband: Vreino McMaster
• Children: Anthea, Orlando, and Marcelo McMaster

They carry forward her legacy not only in the continued growth of Susie’s Hot Sauce, but in the love and strength she instilled in their lives.

Final Words

In her 60+ years, Rosemarie McMaster did more than build a brand — she created a movement of cultural pride, culinary excellence, and entrepreneurial courage. She leaves behind more than bottles of hot sauce; she leaves behind a story of perseverance, love, and fiery spirit.

Her memory will live on in the kitchens of Antigua, in the hearts of her family, and in every drop of Susie’s that brings warmth to a meal.

Rest in peace, Rosemarie McMaster. Your fire will never fade.
